I'm a hip old granny who can hip-hop, bebop, dance til ya drop and yo yo, make a wicked cup of cocoa.

I had heard about Advanced Style several times from reading other fashion blogs, and always sort of filed in the back of my mind in Things To Check Out Later. My sister sent me a link to it today and described it as "old ladies going balls to the wall with outfits." My discovering it definitely comes at the perfect time. Between my character Constance of My Great Travels (which I mean to update soon when I have the time!) and some of the more recent performance/self-portrait projects I'm working on, old lady fashion is one of my biggest inspirations. I've mostly been pulling ideas out of my mind and my closet, throwing together the weirdest combinations I can find. It's really satisfying seeing real women dressed in their wildest outfits in the real world. They defy the mass fear that women in our society have of growing old. These women are true to themselves and their age, and it's truly inspiring. And there is something about an eccentric old lady that is undeniably magnetizing. It makes me really excited for aging gracefully, stylishly, and creatively!

I've been frantically scrolling through posts, soaking up the colorful images. Here are some of my favorites.

Edit: Apparently there is a also a documentary from Advanced Style in the works. Here's the trailer:

  1. I love them all!!! :D This makes me so happy! I totally agree with you, societies fear of age boarders on insanity. What happened to treasuring our elders and respecting their experiences and wisdom??? These are some fearless, and free beauties.

  2. Brilliant and uplifting. This has made my day and sent me rushing off to my wardrobe, UK for closet, to find my more whacky outfits.
